The Fiber-to-the-Home Council is a non-profit organization established to help its members with planning, marketing, implementing and managing FTTH solutions. The mission of the Council is to educate, promote and accelerate fiber-to-the-home and the resulting quality of life enhancements. A very informative document is their Advantages of Optical Access.
Edited by Ann Tracy, the Blandin On Broadband blog is one of the best ways to keep up with what's going on in the broadband world in the state of Minnesota. Ann is a tireless researcher, writer, thinker and blogger and a great asset in keeping us all informed on broadband issues.
The Blandin Foundation has seen the importance of broadband access to rural Minnesotans and has been working tirelessly since 2003 to help communities understand, apply and grow their use of the internet and other emerging broadband technologies. Enacted by the Minnesota State Legislation in 2008, the mission of the Minnesota Ultra High-Speed Broadband Task Force is to make recommendations to the governor and legislature regarding the creation of a statewide high-speed Internet access goal, and a plan for implementation by 2015.
On February 24th, acting as fiscal agent for the Cook County Broadband Initiative, the Cook County Board signed a contract with CCG Consulting, LLC to complete a broadband feasibility study to provide ultra-broadband services to citizens, businesses and visitors to Cook County. The contract was funded by matching funds from the Blandin Foundation, Cook County, Arrowhead Electric and Boreal Access and local tourism organizations.
It is estimated that the contract will be completed in 3-4 months. Meetings have already begun with principal Doug Dawson of CCG to discuss the market survey which will mark the beginning of the analysis on the requirements and feasibility of a modern communications network project in Cook County.
